KNEECAP will be prohibited from entering Hungary over the next three years. This has been announced by the Hungarian government, which accuses the Irish group to incur “repeatedly in anti -Semitic hate speeches that support terrorism and terrorist groups.” The news comes on the eve of his performance at the Sziget Festival, planned for this month of August.
The Hungarian government spokesman has claimed to have a “zero tolerance” with any form of “anti -Semitism” and has declared that the Kneecap concert represented “a threat to national security.” He added that if the group enters the country, “they will be expelled according to international standards.”
In a statement on Instagram, and after apologizing to “the tens of thousands of fans” who expected their presence at the festival, Kneecap have described the situation as “outrageous”, taking into account that a few weeks ago Viktor Orban received Benjamin Netanyahu “as if it were a hero.”
«No KNEECAP member has never been convicted of any crime in any country. We position ourselves against all hate crimes and defend love and solidarity, as well as denounce injustices where we see them, ”they say in the statement.
The group ends describing what happened as “a political distraction and an attempt to silence those who denounce the genocide against the Palestinian people”: “Like the good people of Budapest, who challenged the prohibition of their own president of pride in June, we will fight for what is correct,” they conclude.
