We already know four previews of the album, as sonorous as ‘Jessica’ or ‘Spanish Karaoke’, and as catchy as ‘Enamorado de tu reverb’. We choose the new one, ‘Hey’ as Song of the Day, for being the best of all. And this time it has nothing to do with Julio Iglesias’ hit.
One of the mottos of the album is that it is for “dance crying and cry dancing” and this song is a good example. “Hey, everything is shit since you’re not here, I don’t know who to talk to” are his explicit lyrics of heartbreak, all over one of Joël’s most mature, calm and contemplative melodies. As close to Franco Battiato as that of ‘Music for Adults’, here with robotic voices that are reminiscent of the song that Sébastien Tellier brought to Eurovision representing France. In all its simplicity, it ends up being the best composition of this era.
The artist talks about the philosophy of the album in a press release, which is also valid for ‘Hey’, due to the drop of dance music it has: “bad things should be danced to as you can also dance in perverse moments. Because being sad is compatible with going out and having a good time. “You cannot hide what you are because we all carry something buried and a party can also be held to unearth emotions.”
He continues, heading towards the title of the album: «Setting anchors leads to stagnant waters, but if they are set they are like the roots of air, which frame you in an unprecedented but mutable place. Because everything is contingent and your own problems don’t matter to your own friends. That does not mean that there is no emotional connection with others, but it simply means that we probably live in a constant Museum of Disappointments.
