Guitarricadelafuente has arrived at Tiny Desk. The Benicasim artist has starred in the latest installment of the NPR format and has brought out the folkier side of his latest album, ‘Spanish Leather’, the fifth best release of last year for JENESAISPOP readers.
“Come on Washington!”, Guitarrica releases at the climax of ‘Full time papi’. Álvaro Lafuente’s very clever proposal has chosen to embrace the purest side of his compositions, with a team of 8 musicians and multiple strings. At the same time, he has been concerned with showing the most faithful version possible of the original songs. This is evident in the use of the hurdy-gurdy and electronic requiebro in this first song.
This live performance, despite all the digital textures of the LP, highlights the organic elements of the songs on ‘Spanish Leather’. Now it is much better understood that Guitarrica described his style as “folk.” ‘Tramuntana’ is as beautiful and exciting as it already was in the recording, also including the intro of ‘Sonata nº9 de los heavies de Gran Vía’. Others, like ‘Poses’, benefit from the lack of autotune.
Regarding this one, the artist describes it as a “special” piece and explains that he wrote it “thinking about not hiding who you are, being honest and being proud of your poses, which are what make us unique.”
