Gnarls Barkley prepare to say goodbye with the exciting ‘Pictures’

Gnarls Barkley have released their first single in 18 years, but it’s the beginning of the end. The duo formed by CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse have announced the arrival of their third and final album, appropriately titled ‘Atlanta’, as it will be quite the return home. It will be available on March 6 and ‘Pictures’ is the exciting preview of the project.

The final touch of Gnarls Barkley’s career, which had its peak in 2008 with the massive hit ‘Crazy’ and the release of the group’s second album, is made to hit us hard. ‘Pictures’ is a modern soul in which Green reflects on his past in Atlanta through the “images” that were presented to him “looking out the window of the MARTA train,” referring to the city’s public train system.

“One minute passes, the past is now / I hope life is saving the best for last,” CeeLo sings over Danger Mouse’s detailed production, centered around a bright piano and a chorus of voices that weave in and out of the track. The singer says that his childhood in Atlanta was not easy, with a teacher who ordered him to leave school as soon as he arrived, but it is the passing of the years that gives him another perspective: “When you breathe the air you are that city / I even thought the cemeteries were beautiful.”
