Gara Durán is already on the third preview of his next album, of which no title or date is known. We only know that it comes out this year and that both ‘Mi loco cowboy’ and ‘Placer de vivir’, with Natalia Lacunza, have been Song of the Day in JENESAISPOP. ‘A House on Teide’, in collaboration with Barry B, is capable of melting hearts. Therefore, it is also the Song of the Day.
When Gara and Barry sing ‘El lago de mi pena’ in their concerts, often with each other present, it always turns out to be the most tender moment of the gig, that’s why seeing two lovers singing together. However, the inspiration for the song is hardly romantic, being inspired by the death of one of the couple’s closest friends.
‘Una casita en el Teide’ is what the public believes ‘El lago de mi pena’ is: a song that does talk about being madly in love. Over some beautiful and delicate guitar and piano arrangements that are slightly reminiscent of the most bucolic Sufjan Stevens, Barriuso begins the song: “I wish they had told me that life escapes you in an instant / That no matter how cold it is and how late it is, I can take refuge in you.”
Gara reciprocates his words by assuring that it feels “strange not to be bad” and that “it won’t hurt anymore” now that he has his partner close. The chorus has the epic and fanciful touch that usually characterizes Barry’s lyrics, but it is also nourished by Gara’s delicacy: “I want a house in the sky, the velvet clouds to see everything small,” they sing.
If until now it had not finished conquering those most in love, the song ends with a promise of love: “Keep well the flame that you lit in me, I want it to last a lifetime.”
