Funk, Samba and Jotas at the end of the GPS cycle: Calequi and Las Panteras, with Drexler, and the nest

After 15 years supporting the emerging talent of this country, turning for Salas has celebrated the end of another edition with a totally magical night thanks to the performances of Calequi and Las Panteras and The nest. Since the beginning of the last call, last September, 150 concerts have taken place in which not only the scenes of the different territories have been held, but also the rooms that do everything possible. As Alex Gara mentioned, who made a teacher of ceremonies, they are “the true heart of music.”

Thus, the Clamores room proved to be the perfect place to celebrate the event thanks to its perfect sound. Jorge Drexler, who was among the public preparing for his intervention with Calequi and the Panthers and that he had no idea that there was a journalist at his side, he could not avoid commenting on the great work of the sound technician: “He is a genius,” he told his companion.

With this clarity, the revitalization of the Castilian folk that proposed the nest, direct from Burgos was heard. If you like fashion it is almost impossible not to. From the beginning they managed to attract the attention of the public, seeking their interaction and infecting their visible euphoria and enjoyment on stage. They also left with some advantage, with enough attendees wearing t -shirts. The greatest achievement of the Burgos band was to turn the clamor into a revolutionary town square. To the son of the jota ‘El Castañero’, the five members got off the track with their spoons and bells and encouraged to sing to the public with their unique energy. It was not clear how many they knew them and how many not, but little mattered at a collective moment like this.

This was also the community fiestón of Calequi and Las Panteras. These began by saying that they came from turning for 35 days in Latin America and were determined to remember many of those countries in the clamor. They did it with Funk, Afropop and various Latin rhythms, depending on the honored place. Songs like ‘Sandía’ or ‘Without control’, in honor of Mexico, they advanced what was coming: a celebration of life through psychedelia and dance. There was also a hole for more solemn moments, starring Lauri Revuelta and Luisa Corral, better known as Las Panthers.

At first, he believed that Jorge Drexler was simply enjoying the show. And in a certain part, it was. When the group’s frontman, Javier Calequi, mentioned that the next song was dedicated to the city of Montevideo, I already understood what was happening. It was after the show when I learned that Calequi is also the musical director of Jorge Drexler. Urugayo stayed for the beautiful ‘Los Cats’, one of the most memorable songs of the night thanks to that motto that repeats: “Love there is, but it is not for us.”

The end of the show was an unforgettable tour of the most Juerguistas cities in Latin America, Santo Domingo and São Paulo, but in the heart of Madrid. A luxury. The icing of the event was the joint of both groups on stage for the last song, properly entitled ‘Goodbye’. The amount of different instruments that were in that small space was not normal and the joy that emerged, either. The sensation when leaving was to witness an improbable concert jewel. One of those rare occasions when everything goes perfect.
