‘Emilia Pérez’ and ‘The Brutalist’ triumph at the Golden Globes

That genius called ‘Emilia Pérez’ in the musical or comedy category and ‘The Brutalist’ in the drama category have been the big winners of the Golden Globes held tonight. Brady Corbet won Best Director for the latter and Adrien Brody won Best Actor.

Without an award for its main actress, ‘Emilia Pérez’ has won the Golden Globe for a film in a language other than English, thanks to the fact that it is largely in Spanish, and also the award for Best Song and Best Supporting Supporting Role for Zoe Saldana.

The latter implies that Ariana Grande has been left without an award for ‘Wicked’. In the world of pop, we can celebrate a new award for Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for the music of the grotesque ‘Rivals’.

Among the winners, we cannot talk about Javier Bardem for his role in ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ nor, as we said, about the Madrid-born Karla Sofía Gascón, protagonist of ‘Emilia Pérez’. This has been defeated by Demi Moore, who offers an also iconic role in ‘The Substance’, based on ageism.

On television, ‘Hacks’ has once again made a big splash, very deservedly, being recognized as Best Comedy and also Jean Smart as best actress. In their respective categories, ‘Shōgun’ and ‘My stuffed reindeer’ have triumphed, which has been selected Best Series of 2024 in our editorial team.
