Dua, Elton, Coldplay and 400 artists sign a letter against AI

More than 400 artists, among which are Elton John, Coldplay or Dua Lipa, have written a letter to the British government to urgently change the current copyright laws, given the threat of AI for artists.

The letter arrives following a programmed vote for this Monday, in which a law will be decided to require artificial intelligence developers to reveal the material with copyright that they have used to train their AI models. Therefore, artists such as Paul McCartney, Florence Welch, Kate Bush or Robbie Williams ask for protection in their works against this new technology.

«Creative copyrights are the soul of the creative industry. Recognizes the moral authority we have about our work and provides a current of income for 2.4 million people through the four nations of the United Kingdom, ”the letter begins.

These claim not to be “against progress or innovation” and argue that the “first work of any government is to protect its citizens” and that the new law would put “transparency in the heart of the copyright regime.”
