Douglas McCarthy, leader of Nitzer EBB, has died at age 58. The group has not revealed the cause of death through the Instagram statement, which says: «With great regret we report that Douglas McCarthy has died on the morning of this June 11. We ask everyone to be respectful of Douglas, his wife and family at this difficult moment. We appreciate your understanding and soon we will share more information ».
Belonging to the movement of the so -called EBM (“Electronic Body Music”), Nitzer EBB published in 1987 their first album, ‘That Total Age’. There they combined the absolutely danceable rhythms of ‘Murderous’ with repeated mantras in loop, reaching the lists of the best industrial discs in history and influencing future generations, such as The Big Pink, Liars or Cold Cave.
Always in Mute and Geffen, they continued to draw albums such as’ Belief ‘(1989)’, ‘Showtime’ (1990), ‘Ebbhead’ (1991) and ‘Big Hit’ (1995) until they took a break. In 2010 they would return with ‘Industrial Complex’. McCarthy also collaborated with Alan Wilder de Depeche Mode in Recail and published a solo album called Kill Your Friends.
