According to El Diario de Sevilla, the expression “tesquiyá” is “the interjection with which we can express disagreement or disbelief when they tell us something that we consider false or exaggerated. It comes from the rhetorical question ‘do you want to go now?’ or ‘Do you want to go there now?’, said in a contracted way, with a touch of irony and with a diction typical of Cádiz.”
A variation of this form, ‘Teskiya’, is the title of CURRO’s new single from Cádiz, which is one of the best of his career and today’s Song of the Day.
The author of ‘A Toro Pasao’, one of the best songs of 2025, returns with a happy and very rhythmic song, marked by a chantable and rumba melody and a production show full of clapping and percussion and instrumental details, such as the tense string or wind arrangements that subtly emerge at various points in the song.
Also with echoes of Rio funk and nuances of Latin club, which in no way dilute the festive and community spirit of the song, ‘Teskiya’ also serves as an affirmation of the independence of CURRO, who has many girlfriends and boyfriends but warns: “I’m not marrying anyone, anything won’t work for me.” Of course, he postulates himself as boyfriend material: “I am what mothers want / educated, handsome and exclusive / a prize for his turn,” says the great chorus.
Things get complicated in the second stanza, which includes the rhyme: “I have everything good that is expected of a great man / less money, help yourself to what you want”, and what seems like the confession of an emotional disorder: “I am somewhat unstable, but a faithful companion / I swear, the day I change / I will stay for a whole life.” Until the love of your life arrives, don’t let the party stop.
