Criticism of Rod Stewart for going to watch football after canceling concert

With the World Cup just started and the goalless draw between Spain and Cape Verde as one of the first results of the tournament, attention has also shifted for a moment to Rod Stewart, after he attended a match after canceling a concert for health reasons.

The singer canceled a concert just an hour before it started, citing vocal problems. His team had previously reported that he was suffering from an acute respiratory infection with laryngitis, so he could not go on stage that night.

However, over the weekend, Stewart shared a video traveling by private jet to Boston with his children to see Scotland in the World Cup, and was later seen celebrating the victory from the stands, with gestures of euphoria, raising his arms and even drinking alcohol.

A representative for the artist has defended the cancellation, stating that the singer’s medical condition was real, and that he had received “several rounds of steroids and treatment in the hope of being able to perform.”

Even so, criticism from frustrated fans has not been long in coming. “Too sick to perform but fine to fly across the country to watch football?” wrote one user. Another comment questioned the timing of the video: “Why is he posting it after disappointing 10-15 thousand fans? … He clearly doesn’t care that his fans were really disappointed and only 45 minutes before the start of the show.”
