A year after the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office decided not to file sexual abuse charges against Marilyn Manson, a court has reopened a civil lawsuit filed by his former assistant Ashley Walters, Deadline reports. Walters accuses Brian Warner (Manson’s real name) of sexual harassment, abuse, sexual assault, intentional emotional harm and wrongful termination, accusations that the musician has denied at all times.
Thanks to a new California law that extends the deadline to reactivate lawsuits for sexual assault of adults whose legal time had expired, Walters manages to reopen her case, originally filed in 2021 and based on events that occurred between 2010 and 2011.
Walters’ case had been rejected several times for lack of evidence and for being filed too late. Thanks to the new law, the claim may be reconsidered. Meanwhile, Marilyn Manson continues his career. In fact, last November he visited Spain to present his latest album, ‘One Assassination Under God – Chapter 1’.
Walters’ defense has welcomed the court decision and stressed that the new legislation already in force prevents abusers from taking advantage of the statute of limitations for crimes. However, Manson’s lawyer has expressed his “doubts” that the lawsuit will go anywhere, and recalled that the prosecution had already refused to file criminal charges.
