Greg Brown was a fundamental part in the development of the sound and identity of the Californian band Cake. According to different sources, Brown was fifty-seven or fifty-eight years old.
The Californian band Cake has announced the death of the guitarist Greg Brown. The group has taken to social media to inform their fans that Brown He died after a “brief illness.” The statement reads: “Greg was an integral part of CAKE’s sound and early development. His creative contributions were immense, and his presence (both musical and personal) will be deeply missed.”
Brown founded the band in 1991 next to the singer John McCreathe trumpeter Vince DiFiorethe drummer Frank French and the bassist Shon Meckfessel. He participated in the debut album of Cake from 1994, “Motorcade of Generosity”and in its 1996 sequel, “Fashion Nugget”. In this last album, Greg He is listed as the author of the band’s great hit, “The Distance”. Shortly before the release of the third album, Brown left the group to form Deathrayreleasing the project’s debut album in 2000. This became their main focus throughout the next decade.
Years later, Brown briefly met with Cakecollaborating on guitar on “Bound Away” from the 2011 album “Showroom of Compassion”.
