Bruno Mars has released ‘I Just Might’, the promised first single from his new album, ‘The Romantic’. Mars has made it especially easy for its audience – and that’s saying something – by betting on a new concoction of more or less obscure references.
‘I Just Might’ is an old-fashioned party disco number bottled up into a three-minute pop song. Similar to the productions that were successful at the time of ‘Soul Train’, the song puts in a mixer a typical Chic rhythmic base with the melody of ‘Move Your Feet’ and ‘Walking on Sunshine’ and a distorted guitar riff that, indeed and as pointed out in some forums, refers to William Onyeabor’s ‘Fantastic Man’.
The result? A more than likely number 1 on global charts that is finished off with a video clip that points to Outkast’s ‘Hey Ya’ and Little Richard’s mustache. But also a production that looks back at the past in a shameless and unimaginative way. Is this really what the public wants from Bruno Mars after ten years?
Since announcing a few days ago that his album is “ready” – and it has taken a decade to wait -, Bruno Mars has not taken long to launch all the expected promotional machinery, confirming that the album is not only finished but very ready to be released. ‘The Romantic’ comes out on February 27 and Mars will present it on a world tour, The Romantic Tour, the first in stadiums, which will pass through Spain.
The date, for now, is exclusive to Madrid, and is scheduled for Friday, July 10 at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. Anderson .Paak, his ally in the duo Silk Sonic, will serve as the opening act in his role as a DJ, under the alias Pee.Wee, and Victoria Monét, an R&B star known for her work with Ariana Grande and for her exquisite solo albums, also appears in the line-up.
Pre-sale tickets will be available on January 14 at 12 noon. To access it, fans must register on the Bruno Mars website before January 12 at 7 p.m. The general sale will start on January 15 at 12 noon through the usual points of sale. The price of tickets starts at 70 euros without distribution costs, reports Los 40 Principales, official Spanish media. This is how the dates of The Romantic World Tour remain:
