BLAYA confirms that Spanish music continues to innovate, while Anglo-Saxon music continues to be stuck in the eternal revival. Their new single, ‘Llevan2 tu ropa’, is a strange but addictive hybrid of folk and vocoder; In his hands, a simple song of heartbreak sounds like it came from another planet.
It may be María Blaya’s sharp melodies, her mix of natural and digitalized harmonies, the pseudo-lo-fi sensibility of the recording or the production details that are added subtly – like that kind of synthesized flute that emerges around minute 1:30 – but ‘Llevan2 tu ropa’ is captivating from the first second. Despite its experimental tone, the skeleton of the song is a beautiful melody.
BLAYA, who has just produced ‘Something mine’, the first single from Téyou – a contestant on Operación Triunfo 2025 -, produces and writes ‘Llevan2 tu ropa’ completely on her own, capturing the emotional residue of a heartbreak, “what remains after” a breakup. Blaya secretly puts on her ex’s clothes to feel close to him. The promotional images provided by Interscope Records play with this idea from a humorous perspective, portraying a masculinized Blaya, with a mustache attached.
Deep down we have a tremendously sensitive song, with more substance than it may seem. “When missing becomes a physical and everyday gesture, all that remains is to put on someone’s clothes to feel close to them,” describes the official note.
BLAYA continues to present her next project, confirming her change of stage name (now she simply uses her last name written in capital letters). The previous single, ‘Phill CollinX’, was also a minor stunner; Blaya discussed her pregnancy with JENESAISPOP in a brief interview.
