Bad Bunny once again claims his homeland in his new album, ‘Debí Tirar Más Fotos’, now available on all platforms. To start, the invited artists are all from Puerto Rico: RaiNao, Chuwi, Omar Courtz, Dei V and Los Pleneros de la Cresta.
The album was previewed with an emotional 13-minute short starring Jacobo Morales, one of the most important film directors in Puerto Rico, and his friend Concho, a native toad of the island.
Directed by Benito Martínez Ocasio himself along with Arí Maniel Cruz Suárez, the short film denounces the change that Puerto Rico has undergone in recent years, focusing on gentrification and globalization. The Bad Rabbit exemplifies this with the replacement of Spanish with English, the loss of traditional gastronomy and, of course, the lack of Puerto Rican music. “That sounds really hard!” Concho says when a car passes by with Bad Bunny at full volume.
The very inclusion of this character, a talking toad, is a claim in itself. The concho toad or Puerto Rican toad is a species endemic to the territory that is currently in danger of extinction. The reason? The destruction of their natural habitat. All very well done.
On the back cover of the album, uploaded to Instagram, it reads: “This project is dedicated to all Puerto Ricans around the world.” ‘EL CLúB’ and ‘PIToRRO DE COCO’, with their experimental overtones, were the only previews of the album.
