Bad Bunny will star for the first time in his career in a film, ‘Porto Rico’, directed by rapper Residente, who makes his debut as a feature film director. ‘Porto Rico’ will tell the story of the country of origin of both Benito and René, who has co-written the script with screenwriter Alexander Dinelaris, known for his work on ‘Birdman’.
The film will bring together in the same cast Benito Ocasio (Bad Bunny), Javier Bardem, Viggo Mortensen and Edward Norton, all confirmed to participate in the Residente project.
‘Porto Rico’ is presented as an “epic Caribbean western and historical drama” that, with Benito as the protagonist, will combine “a large-scale historical narrative with a visceral and lyrical approach, in a shocking story inspired by real events.”
With ‘Porto Rico’, Residente will fulfill one of the dreams of his life. “I have dreamed of making a film about my country since I was a child,” he explains in the official press release. “The true history of Puerto Rico has always been surrounded by controversy. This film is a reaffirmation of who we are, told with the intensity and honesty that our history deserves.”
Bad Bunny and Residente have a joint single, ‘Bellacoso’, which brought them together to celebrate the resignation of former Puerto Rican ruler Ricardo Rosselló. Together, also accompanied by Ricky Martin, among others, they led the massive protest in 2019 in which they demanded the leader’s resignation.
The news comes just after Benito gave a historic performance during the Super Bowl halftime, where he claimed the unity of all of America. Precisely, Benito and Residente were seen embracing in a hug backstage, after finishing the show.
