Ariana Grande inaugurates a new era with the release of ‘hate that I made you love me’, the first single from an album titled ‘Petal’, a work that can be heard from July 31 and which, as we know, will be composed of 12 songs. We invite you to the Ariana Grande forum to comment on it.
Grande has spoken briefly about ‘Petal’, ensuring that the album explores a facet that she had never dared to develop in this way before.
When Ariana said that ‘Petal’ would be her “fuck it” album, perhaps she was referring to songs like the first single, ‘hate that I made you love me’, in which she proudly leaves a relationship, stating that she will “find a way out of you” or resorting to metaphors “about flowers that grow from graves.” A story of emotional exhaustion caused by an unequal relationship, marked by the other’s insecurities, ‘hate that I made you love me’ has confessions such as “I hate that I made you love me, because I hardly tried” that explore a darker emotional area.
Its subtle eighties and mid-tempo sound – although with especially marked keyboards – is combined with the already expected melodic magic conjured by Ariana together with her trusted collaborators, Max Martin and ILYA, resulting in another composition with a beautiful melody, as was the case with ‘we can’t be friends’, but presented in a more delicate packaging.
The bridge of ‘hate that I made you love me’, which evokes that of ‘yes, and? when reflecting on gender dynamics: “I have carried your projections when you felt so insecure / Tell me, why is it like this? / Why does it bother you so much to see women resist?”, the artist poses.
On the other hand, the video clip anticipates that Ariana will share a cast with actor Justin Long, known for his roles in films such as ‘Dodgeball’, ‘Jeepers Creepers’ or ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’, among other works in comedy and genre films. The clip premieres on Monday at 5:00 p.m. Spanish time.
