Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa, Pedro Pascal, Sabrina Carpenter and Christina Aguilera are among the more than 100 artists who have signed a public letter in defense of the protection of the telephone line for the prevention of suicide among young LGBTQ+. In the United States, this line operates under the name of 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and includes a specific support resource for young LGBTQ+.
The United States Government, through the administration of Donald Trump, is considering withdrawing federal financing to this telephone line, which is attended by specialized professionals, despite the high suicide and suicidal ideation registered among the young LGBTQ+ in the country.
These artists have declared that “they do not plan to shut up” before a new threat against the rights of the LGBTQ+ population in the United States. “As artists, creators and public figures, our platforms entail a responsibility. And today, that responsibility is clear: we must raise the voice to protect the mental health and life of the young LGBTQ+,” says the text also signed by Marina Diamandis, Ethel Cain, Tove Lo, Diplo, Julia Michaels or the actors Jamie Lee Curtis, Daniel Radcliffe and Josh Hutcherson.
“This goes from people, not politics,” follows the text. «In a moment of deep division, let’s let this be something that we can all agree on: no young man should run out of help at their darkest moment. If this lifeguard is removed, LGBTQ+ young people receive the message that it is not worth saving their lives. We refuse to accept that message. ”
With the support of The Trevor Project, the non -profit organization in the United States that provides suicide support and prevention services specifically for young LGBTQ+, and who has promoted the letter, these artists ask “the administration and congress that they do the right thing: restore and protect the financing of specialized services for young LGBTQ+ of 988 Suicide & crisis & crisis Lifeline 2026 ”.
