Arc de Soleil, today in Madrid, travels 4,000 years back

Arc de Soleil is on tour in our country. After passing through Apolo last night in Barcelona, today, November 25, it is the turn of the Sala Changó in Madrid as part of the cycle that celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Ochoymedio.

The project of composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Kadawatha reviews hits that are based on both synth-wave and psychedelia. Songs like ‘Got Caught in Amsterdam’ or ‘The Thief in Marrakesh’ have taken streaming platforms by storm. In addition, he now adds the songs from his album this year, ‘Lumin Rain’.

Arc de Soleil’s recordings are recreated in instrumental passages, the cadence of a guitar pluck and sometimes some dance rhythms. This is the case of ‘Dunes of Djoser’, the song we selected as Song of the Day today.

In case you haven’t noticed, Arc de Soleil’s compositions tend to be traveling, and this one is expressly set in Ancient Egypt, around the tomb of Pharaoh Djoser, the step pyramid that has its origins more than 4,000 years ago. And if the artist’s compositions sometimes contain the feeling of delirium and paranoia, this short text plays with the feeling of confusion.

In the first stanza he overwhelms “an ocean of sand,” while Daniel feels dazed by the “evening light.” “Is this real or is it a dream?” he asks himself as he hears a voice calling him “and things dissolve.” A sensation that contrasts with an accurate melody that knows exactly where it is going and that results in one of his most accessible recordings.

As an extra, we also leave you with the concert that he offered this month for the iconic KEXP series.
