“Is This All There Is?” is the first installment of a trilogy of albums that explore identity as a metamorphosis. It is molded and reshaped through the experience of falling in love. He is inspired by the change in perspective he experienced Calvi after becoming a mother: “Having a child was so transformative that it made me consider the possibility that everything in life could change. That’s scary, but incredibly liberating. I didn’t want to take anything for granted anymore. I want to exist in the best way possible for my child. I wanted to ask the most basic human question: Is this all there is?”
Anna Calvi has long surrounded himself with artists who operate on the limits of genres and expectations. Previously, he has collaborated with artists of different generations such as David Byrne, Brian Eno, Marianne Faithfull, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Courtney Barnett and Julia Holter. All of them artists who follow extraordinary creative paths. Her collaborators on this EP become characters in the story, actors in the world she is creating.
