Ana Torroja has surprised with the release of ‘Sometimes’, the third single from her next album, which is scheduled for release in the spring. The surprise comes not so much from the premiere itself as from the sound of the song.
Torroja opts for a sweet synth-pop with an elegant design in this song conceived during a bicycle ride through Chapultepec Park, in Mexico. He says that “between pedaling and pedaling, inspiration would come to me; I would stop and, lacking a notebook, I would write on the phone the phrases that came with an unusual speed for me.”
Together with producers Andrés Levin and Santiago Rodríguez, among others, Torroja builds a tasty midtempo song, with chill air and synthwave energy, which “explodes” in a content and melodic chorus while reflecting on romantic-affective dynamics.
“Like everything in life, not even relationships are a bed of roses,” explains Torroja. “Sometimes the roads are flat, other times winding and uphill; there are cloudy days, stormy days and sunny days… What we feel towards the other person often has more to do with ourselves and the mood of each day. Keeping a love story alive is not easy: it requires daily work, respect, tolerance, empathy and communication. But when love is born on strong and deep foundations, the ‘sometimes’ don’t matter: that love always rekindles from the ashes.”
‘Sometimes’ is finished off with an electric guitar pluck that takes the song towards a fade out ending, as if heading “into eternity” (in the words of Kevin Parker). One of Ana Torroja’s most elegant singles, at any time.
