Amaia stars in the strongest entry of the week on the Spanish singles chart with ‘I have a thought’. Promoted with a now historic presentation on RTVE’s ‘La Revuelta’, where it was included at the end of what seemed like a normal interview, and developed largely in sequence, this song is top 14 in Spain. The strongest entry of the week in the middle of the Christmas hurricane of Christmas carols.
For a minimalist ballad, with very discreet instrumentation, and without repetitive repetitive parts, it is a kind of Christmas miracle. La Bien Querida and Irenegarry, in addition to of course Amaia Romero, appear in the composition credits.
This top 14 represents Amaia’s best top in Spain since ‘Your song’, her song with Alfred that represented Spain in Eurovision in 2018, reached number 3 in our country.
After that, Amaia has been more of an album artist, although she has achieved several sleepers. ‘Perdona (now yes)’ with Carolina Durante and ‘El Encounter’ with Alizzz managed to reach platinum status, but none of them rose above 35th and 36th, respectively. They were gold records ‘Yo invito’ -number 57-, ‘The song that I don’t want to sing to you’ with Aitana -number 59- and ‘ Así bailaba’ with Rigoberta Bandini -number 41-. ‘El relámpago’, his first solo song, was number 24, but it fell immediately, and did not obtain certification.
We will see the journey that awaits ‘I have a thought’, but it still holds out in the top 40 of Spotify Spain. What happens after Reyes and if any radio or playlist decides to support it will be decisive for its resistance. On January 31, the album ‘Si abro los ojos no es real’ is published and in February the album is presented both at Sant Jordi Club and at the WiZink Center. JENESAISPOP is the official means of the Madrid date, February 23.
The Spanish singles chart has a few more entries, for example, ‘Se fue’ by Monocho Chavea and Morad at number 15, and ‘Llame pa verte’ by Yaisel LM, Ozuna and JC Reyes at number 98; as well as a couple of Hoke songs. With Quevedo it reaches position 65 (‘ABC’) and with Morad it reaches 89 (‘We thought we were cool’). But in truth the news is the presence of a dozen Christmas carols in the top 100.
Mariah Carey climbs to the top 4 with ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’, without equaling her maximum in the top 3; something they do achieve Wham! by climbing to the top 6 with ‘Last Christmas’. David Bisbal places 3 Christmas carols in the top 100, led by ‘El burrito sabanero’ at number 9. Just outside the top 20 are ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ by Bobby Helms and ‘Rockin Around the Christmas Tree’ by Brenda Lee. Christmas carols by Kelly Clarkson, Michael Bublé, The Ronettes, Dean Martin… and ‘It’s Christmas Potpourri’ by Raya Real in ’80 and ‘Santa Claus Came to Town’ by Luis Miguel in ’93 sneak in for the first time.
