Amaarae can't stop making pop

Amaarae distributes “keta and coca” in the futuristic ‘Starkilla’

One of the most anticipated 2025 albums in the pop world sees light today. This is the third album of the Afrobeat Amaarae superstar, which, in recent times, has put our long teeth thanks to the powerful sound of the singles ‘Smo’ and ‘Girlie-Pop!’.

The launch of ‘Black Star’ reveals interesting novelties, such as a sample of ‘Believe’ by Cher in ‘She is My Drug’ or Pinkpantheress and Naomi Campbell collaborations. The model has taken pleasure in participating in musical projects, after its collaboration in the Miley Cyrus album.

In this album that includes several co-productions of El Guincho, precisely the “drugs” flow without pause. The same Amaarae presumes “to have all the drugs you want.” And ‘Starkilla’, today’s song, uses them hook: “Ketamine, Coke, and Molly” is the mantra that is repetitively repeated in the chorus. The effect is, of course, addictive.

But ‘Starkilla’ offers other things, apart from dusts and crystals. To begin with, an impressive futuristic production of Tecno Hyperdigital, full of laser shots and threatening bass. In my head, ‘Starkilla’ is a sister of ‘Alien Superstar’ by Beyoncé.

‘Starkilla’ is also a collaboration with the Bree Runway rapper, who introduces the song by inviting the listener to move the body in the club “like a buck of the disco” (“Like A Disco slut” is the original expression: yes I am). Of course, she, responsible, unchecks the consumption of narcotics: «Keta, m, I do not take that shit; I already fly with my life ».
