An auction of miscellaneous material and memorabilia has just been launched on eBay. The Haçienda and Factory Recordsowned by Tony Wilson, samples of a moment that marked the history of British music.
The past January 12the Instagram account of Tony Wilson Archive published the news of the sale with the following statement: “We are pleased to announce the release of several original items from Factory Records and The Haçienda from the archive, which are now available for a seven-day auction on eBay.” Included in the auction were two FAC51 Haçienda membership cards, a Buzzcocks magazine illustrated by Linda Sterling and a original poster promoting Joy Division’s debut at The Factory Club in 1978. It was added that all the items for sale were “original and rare”, coming from the archive of Tony Wilson, founder of both, and that they will be accompanied by a formal letter of authenticity. The pieces ranged from £200 to £900, and are now all sold.
The sale comes after the estate of the late Tony Wilson, who represented bands such as Happy Mondays, New Order, Joy Division, A Certain Ratio, Durutti Column and others, an exhibition will be presented at the Smolensky Gallery, Manchester last year. That event was billed as a free, immersive experience, and was led by OliverWilson’s son. It was made possible because the archive started a Kickstarter campaign at the end of 2024, asking for financial support to open its collection to the public for the first time.
