Rigoberta Bandini has just concluded her ‘Jesucrista Superstar’ tour and says that her next show is “giving birth”, since she is already very pregnant. Previously, he published the studio version of a song that he had already presented live and that, although it is not one of the best in his repertoire, does have interesting moments.
‘Chicle badly hooked’ is linked to the ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ era for its experimental rather than simply effusive spirit. Here there are no exciting melodies like those of ‘Ay mama’ or ‘Julio Iglesias’, but rather a more cynical and carefree mood.
The amalgamation of explosive beats from the 80s that open the song and then return, a gentler synthetic beat in the verses, grunge guitar plucks, vocal distortion… can make it one of Rigoberta’s compositions that play with the most different resources. But, between verses that never quite take off and a chorus that this time functions more as an instrumental element, the composition does not quite find a clear direction.
The different textures provided by the kinder and softer synths of the verses and the friendly percussions build a theme just as cynical as its lyrics about an apparent farewell: “I wish you the best / In reality, I am the same / Subnormal” or “It doesn’t amuse me to know that you are sad / But in silence I have invented some jokes,” sings the Catalan.
The song is halfway between spite and relief, while the title itself alludes to that relationship that has gotten stuck where it shouldn’t, like a piece of gum that is difficult to remove. The problem is that the topic is not completely engaging either.
