After conquering us with her duet with Toldos Verdes, Maite Quiero continues to reveal her next EP with ‘Montauk’, the second preview of ‘Un Ángel y Yo’. The title refers to ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’, that film that has inspired Ariana Grande so much lately, and the song also plays with that idea of memory that is mixed with fantasy. A sexual experience that time has warped until it became something almost perfect.
“Without many flourishes, this song talks about fucking,” says Maite Quiero, while the press release adds: “The erotic experience from which it is based is diluted with the passage of time. “It is no longer clear what really happened and what memory has built.”
Maite Gallardo Alba also wanted to move away from the “usual male point of view” of songs about sex and approach the subject “from my place.” The result speaks of steam, fogged windows and “pure love like fire”, but without getting too romantic.
With echoes of the harshest Christina Rosenvinge, ‘Montauk’ opts for an intense and quite dirty sound, with distorted guitar, blues-rock flavor and a strummed and sensual bass by Álvaro Vidal that sustains the song. Sexy, physical and a little dirty, too, it’s a new step forward for the former Shego member.
