‘The Black Ball’ premieres trailer on Netflix and is already aiming for the Oscars

The first trailer for ‘The Black Ball’ since Netflix took over the film by Los Javis, Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi is here. The film, which will hit Spanish cinemas on September 25, will then be released internationally by Netflix, with a release in the United States scheduled for October 16.

The film interweaves the stories of three men in 1932, 1937 and 2017, connected by desire, sexuality, pain and memory. Inspired by an unfinished play by Federico García Lorca, ‘La Bola Negra’ features Guitarricadelafuente in his acting debut, as well as Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos González, Lola Dueñas, Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close.

The hype is enormous: The Javis took the Best Director award at Cannes, shared with Pawel Pawlikowski, after a 20-minute ovation. And in the United States the pools for the Oscars are already beginning. Variety places the film in five categories: Best Film, International Film, Production Design, Costumes and Sound, although Spain has yet to officially choose its representative for the 2027 awards.
