Tiny Habits are Cinya Khan, Maya Rae and Judah Mayowa, three musicians who met in 2021 while studying at Berklee and who soon attracted attention for their meticulous vocal harmonies. Among his fans are Elton John, who is all over the place, and David Crosby. They have been dubbed “harmony prodigies,” no less.
After publishing the EP ‘Tiny Things’ (2023), their debut came, ‘All For Something’ (2024), and now they have just released ‘Keepers’, a second album in which they expand their sound towards soul, R&B and disco without losing those harmonies that are their great hallmark.
Among the songs on ‘Keepers’ is ‘Love Ruins Everything’, a lovely retro-disco cut with echoes of Earth, Wind & Fire. The lyrics talk about that fairly universal trap by which, when love comes, it obsesses you and ends up occupying everything: “When it’s happening, it’s that or nothing else.” And when it’s over, it leaves you helpless, making what seemed so important seem like “it was all for nothing.”
The funny thing is that the music doesn’t seem too concerned about such a tragedy. Tiny Habits’ harmonies and brass sound cheerful and bright, turning this little song about sentimental disaster into something much more like a celebration. Because yes: love ruins everything, but at least you can dance.
