30 years ago, Tupac Shakur was shot to death in Las Vegas after attending a boxing match at the MGM Grand. The rapper was traveling in a car with Suge Knight when another vehicle pulled up alongside him and opened fire. Shakur died six days later, aged just 25. For decades, the case became one of the great unsolved mysteries in hip-hop history.
Now, for the first time, a person has been directly convicted of the murder. A Las Vegas jury has found Duane “Keffe D” Davis, 63, guilty of organizing the attack. Prosecutors maintain that Davis sought revenge after Tupac and his entourage attacked his nephew Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, considered for years one of the main suspects in the case.
Davis, who acknowledged having been in the car from which the shots were fired, has always denied being the one who pulled the trigger. He was arrested in 2023 and became the first person arrested directly for Tupac’s murder. His sentencing is scheduled for October 13 and he could face life in prison.
