Dominic Fike is at his best. After the belated success of ‘Babydoll’, reaching global number 1 on Spotify eight years after its original release, the American artist is set to release his third album, titled ‘How To Quit Smoking’. The first preview follows the guitar line of their last hit, but with a clear pop intention. ‘Wallflower’ is the Song of the Day.
‘How To Quit Smoking’ would have been “written, performed and produced in real time on the road.” ‘Wallflower’ is not only the first preview, but the song that opens the album and you can appreciate that urgency that life on the road provokes. This one is full of sharp guitars and choruses beatleiansresulting in a total pop song, from the prism of rock.
The title of the song, like the film and novel ‘The Perks of Being A Wallflower’, appeals to those people who are shy and introverted, and who in social environments will avoid being the center of attention at all costs, staying away from the action because “the fucking world is made of wire.”
In the song, full of melodic stimuli, Fike believes that a certain person is also a “wallflower”, but he is wrong: “I took you for someone who beats around the bush, for an outcast, for a coward and a chicken / Okay, come be my boss,” he sings in the chorus.
