Jorja Smith has returned with what is now her third album, ‘What Are The Odds’, and what are the chances that the British artist will deliver another R&B wonder that serves both to score some dances and to reflect in the middle of the dance floor. ‘Dancing’ is the Song of the Day.
Smith begins the song with a succession of incisive questions: «Do you want to go dancing? Do you want us to hold hands? Do you want to take the risk? Do you want romance? This comes in the context of a couple in the middle of the winter of their relationship. Jorja suggests that the only way to save the situation and become “lovers” again is to meet again on stage.
Producer P2J builds an R&B beat with hints of house measured to support all the melodic potential that Jorja Smith has to offer and is able to achieve it with very few elements: percussion, bass, synthesizers and some slight chops that add up towards the end of the song. What makes the difference here is Smith’s creativity, which fills us with “la-la-las” in the chorus and makes us regret the short duration of the song.
