Phoebe Bridgers’ long-awaited third album, ‘Lost Weekend’, is here. The project’s lead single is not as immediate or catchy as its first preview, the melodic ‘Lost Boys’, but it is more faithful to the Bridgers we all know. Likewise, the singer-songwriter reconciles with all her parts in the song, performed with an unexpected guest. ‘I Can’t Wait’ is the Song of the Day.
The video clip, with which YouTube has dedicated itself by designing an exclusive cursor for the occasion, places us in the point of view of a fly that witnesses different situations and everyday aspects of any life. Bridgers does the same in the lyrics, in which she sings about “getting older not so slowly”, “California sobriety” or not being well, but “better.”
‘I Can’t Wait’ is one of the songs with the most electronic elements on ‘Lost Weekend’, as well as one of the most moody. The first part is starred by muffled but constant percussion, multiple voice samples and the artist’s growing guitar. At one point, leading up to the entrance of Cameron Winter, credited as Son-John Johnson, the song embraces its folkier side until the euphoric finale.
Bridgers and Winter then deliver a duet in which Geese’s vocalist takes care of the high-pitched part, while both embrace all the parts of themselves, good and bad: “All my life / Side by side / Hyde, Jekyll, Hyde / Finally together,” they sing.
