Ganges bursts into heavenly trance by 'Fotolog Nostalgia'

‘Palomita blue eyes’ is Ganges’ techno crush

We have grown tired of saying that Ganges is Teresa Gutiérrez’s “electronic pop project”, but the truth is that this musical umbrella encompasses very different sounds. If in ‘Tell me something nice’ he approached a delicate and meticulous bedroom pop, in his great solo release of 2024, ‘SORA’, that proposal was taken to a universe close to hyperpop, although completely peculiar, something that was already evident in the trance of ‘Fotolog Nostalgia’.

Another of Ganges’ great assets is her vocal timbre, very warm and expressive, and precisely the contrast between the club energy of ‘Palomita Ojos Azules’ and that unmistakable vocal presence is one of the most striking elements of the Cantabrian artist’s new single.

There is little doubt that ‘Palomita Ojos Azules’ is the Ganges single most focused on a club aesthetic, although always maintaining the “room” perspective: this is music to dance to at home… with headphones on.

The song is based on a very determined techno-house base, while Ganges seems to sing as if from another room. The magic is in the details: the cut and pasted children’s choir at the beginning, the dripping piano that at times refers to Rusowsky or the agile changes of rhythm that occur throughout the song turn ‘Palomita Ojos Azules’ into another piece of Ganges goldsmithing, while the artist interprets the lyrics with all the warmth and delicacy that characterizes her.

Behind the electronic virguería hides a lyric that bets on an almost naive romanticism, turning the loved one into a “dove of peace / flying through the clouds” and chaining together images of absolute crushes such as “I have never seen anything like it / In your blue eyes” or “Sick with hope / I have written you a letter.” It is a love song that seems suspended between fantasy and devotion.
