Melissa Auf der Maur publishes after sixteen years of silence

Melissa Auf der Maur returns with her first musical release in sixteen years. The former bassist of Hole and The Smashing Pumpkins will publish on September 4.

“BASS WOMB ROOM: My ’90s 4-Track Demos x Field Recordings”a project that combines unpublished demos recorded in the nineties with new compositions created for a photography exhibition.

Far from presenting it as a standard album, Auf der Maur recovers home recordings recorded before joining Hole and intertwines them with eight new instrumental pieces constructed from field recordings made during different stages of his career, including his tours with Hole and The Smashing Pumpkins. As a preview you can now listen to “Skip a Beat”.

The publication of the album will coincide with the opening of BASS WOMB ROOM, a photographic exhibition that will open its doors on September 2 at the Art Gallery of Ontario and which brings together images taken by the artist herself over three decades. The project will be completed with a 240-page photobook that will be released a few days later.

This release marks Auf der Maur’s return to music since “Out of Our Minds” (2010) and arrives a few months after the publication of his memoirs, “Even the Good Girls Will Cry”focused on his career within the alternative scene of the nineties.
