One of the great Latin American revelations of recent years, Akriila, returns in 2026 with a new album, ‘Lucy looked at the world and noticed that it is spinning’, which the Chilean Fernanda Sepúlveda will present in Spain on September 17 at La Riviera in Madrid and on September 18 at the FSTVL·B in Barcelona.
The artist whom we met with hits like ‘Superficial’, ‘epitafio’ or the brilliantly titled ‘www.hotxhulito.com’, now presents a more guitar-oriented facet, anticipated first with the single ‘suave’, together with Jane Remover, and now with the wonderful ‘Roger’, today’s Song Of The Day.
This is the well-known hybrid of alternative rock and hyperpop, a sound that many have begun to call ‘hypergrunge’. In ‘Roger’, Akriila starts with a beautiful melody, but then the production emphasizes vocal alteration and the use of digital effects. It’s as if a grunge ballad is trying to travel through the future and the journey generates interference along the way.
Even so, the electric textures are the main protagonists of a song that is about a complicated relationship, marked by insecurities and a deep feeling of emptiness. Phrases like “That emptiness of feeling difficult to love still doesn’t work” or “I know you know what it’s like not to feel again and again” emphasize that feeling of disconnection and emotional exhaustion, while others like “Why not? Lean on me… I only have what is left between us” they cling to hope.
