Lauren Bennett, guest singer on LMFAO’s global mega-hit ‘Party Rock Anthem’, has died at the age of 37, as confirmed in a statement by the members of GRL, the group she was a part of until 2020.
“Our hearts are broken and we cannot begin to express how much he meant to us,” Emmalyn Estrada, Natasha Slayton and Paula van Oppen said in a joint statement. “We will always treasure the love, laughter and countless memories he left us.”
Although the news of his death has now reached the media, various reports indicate that Bennett died between the months of May and June.
Bennett, who was discovered on The It also topped the charts in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand and Switzerland, as well as reaching number 7 in Spain.
Before the ‘Party Rock Anthem’ phenomenon, Bennett had already collaborated as a guest artist on two notable songs: a remix of ‘I Got It from My Mama’, by will.i.am, and ‘Love Gun’, by CeeLo Green.
In 2012 she joined the girl band GRL, known for hits such as ‘Wild Wild Love’, alongside Pitbull, and ‘Vacation’, included on the soundtrack of ‘The Smurfs 2’. Tragedy struck the group in 2014, when one of its members, Simone Battle, died by suicide.
In 2017, with her brother Ryan, Lauren Bennett formed BENNETT, a folk, country, blues and rock duo. GRL subsequently disbanded permanently in 2020. Their most recent release was a cover of ‘These Boots Are Made for Walkin’, the classic popularized by Nancy Sinatra, released this same year.
On a personal level, Lauren Bennett was married to actor Kenny Wormald.
