You thought this news was about Madonna, but no. ‘Danceteria’ is also the title of the new single by Soft Cell, who have also officially announced a new studio album with the same name. Just add that Miss Caffeina and Varry Brava already did it before.
‘Danceteria’ will be what the band defines as their “final album.” Although its existence had been known for months: it was in October when Soft Cell made the project public after the death of its co-founder, Dave Ball, at the age of 66.
In a statement, Marc Almond explains the special meaning that the album has: “‘Danceteria’ is a love letter to New York in the early 80s,” also referring to the legendary Manhattan nightclub that bore that name. «The time we spent in New York, where we recorded our first three albums, shaped us both as artists and people. Celebrating that stage is a fitting farewell to Dave Ball and Soft Cell’s final studio album.
Almond adds: “There can be no more Soft Cell recordings without Dave; it simply wouldn’t be possible. The sad reality is that Dave Ball was half of Soft Cell and, beyond live shows, I can’t write Soft Cell songs without him.
With these words, the singer repeats what he already commented in October, that ‘Danceteria’ will serve both to remember one of the most important times in the duo’s history, and to definitively close their recording career.
