arrecí0, the carefree pop punk group from Seville that began to conquer us with the anthem ‘onvres’, has released its first studio album. ‘I AM FULL OF HATE AND LOVE’ came out last week, but it has already proven to be the birthplace of another batch of hilarious songs. In this sense, ‘#DIFFERENT’ is the jewel in the crown. And the Song of the Day.
‘#DIFERENTE’ is a critique, full of humor, of the current indie scene. arrecí0 begin the topic by joking about those groups that have such a “different vibe”, that they are still “a bit niche” and that “if they weren’t from here they would do very well.” The lyrics are an intentional accumulation of clichés that only increase and increase in intensity. Plus, it’s totally catchy.
In the chorus, the group criticizes that the objective of all these groups is “to be alternative and different” based on “mullet, tattoos, mustache, two earrings and a totebag.” They even have “sitar solos”. The wink is rounded off with the spoken interlude, in which the vocalist poses as a radio host: “Hello, I’m Clara Triana from Radio Tren and today we have the same shit as always.”
While some sitar notes play, she claims to be tired “of receiving twenty indie songs that sound the same”, of inventing “moves to justify that your music is original” and ends with the best phrase of the song, which is also as true as a temple: “If I hear another singer with the voice of Diego Ináñez again, I’m going to commit an attack.” They put the finishing touch on the topic by mentioning one of the groups that is to blame for the same situation that is criticized: “Damn, it’s Izal, I’m a superfan.”
