George Harrison’s ex on the Beatles biopic: “No one has called me”

The series of four Beatles films will focus on each member of the group and will place special emphasis on their women, whom director Sam Mendes has described as “fascinating and unique.” However, Pattie Boyd – who was George Harrison’s wife – says that no one involved in the film has contacted her to ask her version or notify her of her representation in the film. All this despite the fact that there is already an actress assigned to play her on screen, Aimee Lou Wood.

Boyd was married to George Harrison from 1966 to 1977. In fact, ‘Something’ is considered inspired by that relationship. However, the model assures that Mendes has not contacted her: “Maybe I’m wrong, but I would have thought it would have been polite to mention it or tell me that they had chosen someone to play me,” she commented. “No one has contacted me. I could have told really interesting stories, but I don’t think they want to know.”

Unfortunately for Boyd and other figures in pop history, in the film industry it is common for biopics and dramatizations about real figures to not directly consult the people represented or their families, especially when it comes to public figures or already widely documented events. It happened with ‘The Social Network’, ‘House of Gucci’, ‘Blonde’ and other productions.

In fact, in his talk with the podcast Miss O’Dell: Abbey Road To Tulsa Time, Boyd – who is now 82 years old – points out that he suspects that the approach of the project does not necessarily seek historical fidelity: “It has nothing to do with the truth or with what really happened, because they don’t want to talk to the people who were there. It is rather the creation of what the filmmaker believes happened.”

Even so, Boyd has tried to downplay the issue with humor, ensuring that he does not plan to give it too much thought. He has even left a dig at Mendes, saying in an ironic tone: “I heard he’s famous. Apparently, this man is famous.”

The Beatles series is structured into four films focusing on each member of the group and is scheduled to be released simultaneously in April 2028. The main cast includes Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.
