the american rapper Mike D. continues to develop his unexpected solo stage with the release of “What We Got”, a new song that arrives just two weeks after publishing “Switch Up”. Their first official music outside the universe of Beastie Boys.
The song recovers part of the most classic sound spirit of the New York band, evoking the energy and textures of the era “Ill Communication”. United with strong bases, distorted guitars and Mike D’s characteristic flow at the front.
The new material has been recorded with his children Davis and Skyler, as well as collaborators such as Jason Lader, Benjamin Pacheco, Kevin Rhomberg, Carter Lang and Tyran Donaldson. Production is handled by Lang and Donaldson, while mixing was done by Derek “MixedByAli” Ali.
The release coincides with Mike D’s progressive return to the stage. Something especially significant after the death of Adam Yauch in 2012. Instead of a conventional tour, the artist has opted for intimate concerts in unusual spaces such as surf shops, skating rinks or community halls.
These live shows have the accompaniment of their children and the band Very Nice Person, and include nods to the historical Beastie Boys repertoire. After several concerts in New York, Mike D also has his first solo European dates planned. With performances in cities such as London, Berlin, Barcelona, Paris and at Primavera Sound Porto. Specifically in Barcelona, the Next June 16 in La (2) de Apoloin an exclusive concert with reduced capacity. It will be a performance in which he will combine Beastie Boys material with his solo material. Tickets are on sale at Fever.
