The leading English post-punk band A Certain Ratio celebrates the anniversary of two of its most iconic albums with the release of special reissues.
These special releases commemorate the forty-fifth anniversary of “Sextet” (82) and the 40th anniversary of “Force” (86). Both editions will be available from next August 28 via Mute Records. Both works are fundamental in the trajectory of the Manchester band and the British post-punk and experimental funk sound.
Originally, both albums were released by Factory Records, to later see the light again through Creation and Soul Jazz.
As a preview, the group has already published the singles “Lucinda (EM)” and “Naked and White (FM)”, new reinterpretations of material from those original sessions.
In the case of “The Joy of Sextet”the producer and musician Andy Meechamknown for his project The Emperor Machinehas worked from the album’s original recordings to create new mixes that respect the sonic spirit of the time while expanding its rhythmic and atmospheric dimension.
For its part, “Force Majeure” will recover the original versions of the project’s songs along with unreleased material and new pieces like “Force”, offering a renewed look at one of the group’s most experimental stages.
Coinciding with these reissues, A Certain Ratio has also announced a special anniversary tour of the United Kingdom that will begin next October.
