Russian Red has revealed more details of its new era, ‘Relative Red’, which encompasses new musical material by Lourdes Hernández and also the celebration of a series of concerts conceived for small venues that will form part of a mini residency. This show has been designed in the image of a “mystical, elegant and surreal cabaret.” At the moment, 6 dates in total have been confirmed between Café Berlin in Madrid and El Molino in Barcelona.
Russian Red’s new concert will be based on the repertoire of ‘Rojo Relative’, which Hernández will publish in volumes, “song by song.” Curiously, the official press release does not talk so much about the album, but rather about the “musical process” linked to the new show.
The first preview of ‘Rojo Relative’ is titled ‘Liar’ and can now be heard. The sensual ballad evokes the dreamy, melancholic and romantic sound of the first Jeanette, but is actually based on ‘Se te Olvida’, the famous maricahi by Javier Solís from 1960, which is a transparent melodic reference in the Russian Red recording. Although, in ‘Mentirosa’, the production treatment evokes a Lynchian and decadent aesthetic, while Lourdes defines herself not as a liar, but as “incredible.” “I don’t know how to lie, I can only imagine,” the artist sings.
