The British rapper Ghetts, well known in the United Kingdom for hits such as ‘Double Standards’ and for his collaborations with artists such as Ed Sheeran, Stormzy and Emeli Sandé, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for killing a student and fleeing after a collision in east London.
Yubin Tamang, a 20-year-old university student from Nepal, died in hospital two days after being hit by the vehicle Clarke-Samuel was driving on the night of October 18, 2025. The artist has pleaded guilty to the young man’s death due to reckless driving.
Ghetts, also known for his role in the Netflix series ‘Supacell’, was driving more than 60 mph in a 30 mph zone when his BMW M5 hit Tamang while he was crossing the road, after which he fled the scene of the accident. According to official information, Clarke-Samuel had consumed alcohol in the afternoon and exceeded the legal limit.
Ghetts has collaborated with other artists such as Sampha and Skepta, and his latest album, ‘On Purpose, with Purpose’, was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize, competing against artists such as Beth Gibbons, The Last Dinner Party, CMAT, Corinne Bailey Rae and the winners English Teacher.
Ghetts released his first mixtape in 2005, ‘2000 & Life’, considered a pioneer in British grime. Clarke-Samuel launched his first musical project after leaving prison, at the age of 19, for a series of minor crimes.
