One of Mushroom Pillow’s big bets for 2026 is Amante Laffón, a band from Seville that has just released, through the renowned independent label, its second album ‘Esta noche es nuestra’. The guitar-pop and melodic post-punk of the 80s and 90s inspires their sound, while the lyrics in Spanish link their proposal with that of similar groups such as Alcalá Norte, Biznaga or Depresion Sonora, exploring emotional alienation, nostalgia or uncertainty about the future.
Not even the tormented texts of ‘Lorazepam’, ‘I don’t see a way out’ (with that chorus “I can’t stand to see your face on IG”) or that ‘It’s not the moment’ that talks about precarious jobs, emotional confusion and complexes prevent Amante Laffón’s melodic guitars from shining, which transfer well-tasted influences from REM, The Cure or the Smiths to a contemporary sensibility.
Amante Laffón, named after a 19th century Sevillian writer, was formed in 2020 after the dissolution of Depitillos. The group, composed of Carlos Calderón (vocals and guitar), their first Kiko (bass and backing vocals) and Dani Calderón (drums and backing vocals), and Daniel Tamajón (guitar), releases its first album in 2022, a ‘Brief reflections on long affairs’ that already includes one of its standout songs, ‘Sigue, calla, traga, gana’, in an uptempo post-punk vibe.
They also cite Fontaines DC among their influences, and all their references crystallize in songs like ‘Madriz’, which can be their great asset, speaking of memories and unfulfilled purposes, while ‘Tenerife’ moves the map towards the terrain of a soft-rock not so explored in current national indie. Amante Laffón’s sound is musically and emotionally accessible.
You will be able to see Amante Laffón’s promise live this week, as ‘The Night is Ours’ is presented in Madrid’s Sala B this Friday, March 6 at 8:00 p.m. by Vibra Mahou, as part of its cycle ((Stages)), dedicated to the best emerging music. Tickets are available at a price of 12 euros + administration fees.
