Julio Iglesias has filed a lawsuit against elDiario.es as a result of his investigation into the singer’s sexual assaults on two women who worked with him and who reported him to the National Court Prosecutor’s Office. This was reported by Iglesias’ lawyer through Okdiario. The document cites crimes of libel and slander, but also contains false accusations.
“The media admits having fabricated the complaint that it then spreads with grave contempt for the truth,” says Okdiario. However, elDiario.es assures that it has never acknowledged “having “fabricated” the complaint filed by the two former workers” of the singer. The media clarifies that this complaint was filed at the time because prosecutors considered that there was no jurisdiction to judge events that occurred abroad, and not because it was believed to be false.
Since then, this has sparked a legal debate in which some opinions suggest that Spain would be competent to investigate the facts. The former workers’ lawyers, on the other hand, plan to continue their legal battle. This complaint, filed on January 5, recounted the events that occurred in 2021, citing crimes of “human trafficking”, “sexual harassment”, “sexual assault” and “imposition of abusive working conditions.”
Meanwhile, Julio Iglesias claims to want to file a complaint after the lawsuit already filed. This has been presented against the director of elDiario.es, Ignacio Escolar, and the journalists who have signed some of the published information, among others. Okdiario accuses elDiario.es of “preparing a journalistic montage that was a serious injury to the fundamental rights of Julio Iglesias.” ElDiario. It denies that it is a “setup” and details the entire process behind the investigation on its website.
