BLACKPINK have a shark mentality, but they are useless, in ‘GO’

BLACKPINK have released a new EP (ironically titled ‘DEADLINE’) and the focus single, titled ‘GO’, is already doing incredible numbers on YouTube. In its first three hours uploaded on the platform, the video clip for the song has already accumulated 6 million views. At the time of writing this, it is already close to 10 million. Now they just need to serve.

‘DEADLINE’ represents the comeback of the South Korean group, but there are already many wondering if it is also the beginning of the end. In addition to the solo careers of JENNIE, ROSÉ, LISA AND JISOO, the video clip for ‘GO’ is one of the reasons to take into account.

The song is correct, with a mechanical chorus, a beautiful melodic bridge and lyrics focused on making the listener achieve all their dreams: winner’s mentality. “I’m never going to settle for second place / I need a gold medal,” LISA raps. The chorus is very simple, repeating that BLACKPINK will make you… well, “GO”.

This theme has been transferred to the video clip through the concept of rowing, a sport associated with hard work, but also with teamwork. BLACKPINK has completely forgotten this. In how many scenes do the four artists appear together? In one. There is a clear lack of group scenes and, above all, choreography. Yes, it is a visually spectacular video and entertaining to watch, but it is not enough that it is expensive. You have to serve a little.

Beyond the video, in the credits of ‘GO’ we find Chris Martin, leader of Coldplay, listed as the song’s composer. It is difficult to know where his intervention in the song begins and ends, but it is certainly a name that fits well with the final song. On ‘Champion’, another ‘DEADLINE’ song, Dr. Luke would have participated in the production.
