Jeff Tweedyleader of Wilco, returns with a revealing book, after his last publication “How to compose a song”, about fifty songs that changed his life. In “A world in every song” He talks to us about the experiences hidden behind each of those songs, as well as what he learned about how music and life are inextricably linked.
In the author’s words: “This book is the one I probably would have written first if I had been more ambitious, and if I had been a little clearer about what matters most to me in this world and what I have thought about the most by far: the other people’s songs. Also, how much they have taught me as a person: to think about myself and others. Listening to almost anything consciously and with an open mind can be a deeply personal experience with universal dimensions. And the most important point of all: how songs absorb and contribute to enhancing our own experiences and storing our memories.
Tweedy captures in his book, without prejudice and far from the usual snobbery in rock criticism, songs by groups and soloists as diverse as The Replacements, ABBA, Deep Purple, Mavis Staples, The Velvet Underground, Joni Mitchell, Otis Redding, Dolly Parton, The “Ramones, suicide, Billie Eilish, John Cage either Rosalia.
Some of the songs mentioned in the book are “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton“Somewhere Over The Rainbow” by Judy Garland“Dancing Queen” by ABBA or “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” by Bob Dylan. You can access the pre-sale of “A world in every song” in this link.
